Word of the Week: Pride<\/strong><\/h2>

Pride arrives each June with a bright, expansive energy \u2014 the kind that fills the air with colour, courage, and celebration. It\u2019s the feeling of being true to yourself and feeling the strength of a community beside you. It\u2019s joy, visibility, and the freedom to live in full colour.<\/p>

Pride is woven through the big moments and the quiet ones. It\u2019s the first time someone feels fully seen. It\u2019s the shared smile between strangers who recognise a piece of their own story. It\u2019s families, friends, and allies showing up with open hearts. It\u2019s the collective spark that grows when people feel safe enough to be themselves.<\/p>

Here in Brighton, Pride feels beautifully at home. Our city welcomes every version of you. There\u2019s space here \u2014 for identity, for expression, for love in all its shapes, for community that lifts and celebrates.<\/p>

Pride is also rooted in something powerful. It exists because generations of LGBTQ+ people fought for the right to live openly as themselves. It began as a protest \u2014 a rising up against injustice, led by people who refused to be silenced. Every right recognised today was fought for through collective action, organising, solidarity and sheer bravery. These freedoms were hard won, and history shows they can be easily and swiftly lost.<\/p>

So this month, we\u2019re honouring Pride by recognising both the joy and the responsibility it carries. We celebrate how far we\u2019ve come, and we stay alert to how much still needs protecting. Too many LGBTQ+ people continue to face discrimination, violence, homelessness and barriers to care. Recent attacks on trans community reminds us that progress is never guaranteed \u2014 and that protecting these rights is a shared responsibility.<\/p>

Pride is a celebration, yes \u2014 and it\u2019s also a call to stand with the LGBTQ+ community, to safeguard the rights and freedoms that generations fought for, and to ensure everyone can live safely, openly and with dignity.<\/p>

Here\u2019s to Pride \u2014 the movement, the joy, the courage, the community, the right to live openly and beautifully. Here\u2019s to living in full colour, today and every day.<\/p>
